Ordering
|
| Pros (+) | At some point last year the owner's brother came over from Italy and made some delicious fresh pasta. Still waiting for him to return. |
| Cons (-) | No matter what I order, I always end up spending at least 250 RMB. They will charge even for the pumpkin seeds they bring together with alcoholic drinks, and sometimes items get misteriously added into the bill. Food quality is very average (deli meats are often much too dry, pizza is not authentic), and the decor is a bit too tacky for my liking. |
| Overall | The owner is making a lots of effort (considering he's not a chef), and he's very successful with the locals. Personally I am no longer a customer. |
| Total Amount Spent | 250 RMB |

| Pros (+) | Very good food, elegant setting, nice music playing in the background. Perfect to impress a date or a client. |
| Cons (-) | Expensive. |
| Overall | Must admit the last time I was there was May 2010, but I found it very good back then. |
| Total Amount Spent | 250 |

| Pros (+) |
Definitely the best Italian-style pizza in town (they have fresh basil!), and other options like beef fillet or seabass are also delicious. Among desserts, I found the cheesecake to be their best. They make their own bread and focaccia, and have a wide selection of Italian liquor including amaro and sambuca. The atmosphere is very warm and authentic, with nice pictures on the walls and none of the tacky golden/velvet/crystal decorations the locals identify with high-level restaurants. The chef (an Italian!) is flexible and available to make variations; the waiting staff can take orders in English and actually get it right. |
| Cons (-) |
The layout is not perfect (a series of rooms are spread over a three-storey building), but their largest room can accommodate over 20 people anyway. Not crazy about the salads. |
| Overall | They have made HUGE progress in a year, both as concerns decoration and food quality. The outdoor seating during the summer provided a perfect venue to watch football games and listen to live music at the heart of the Italian concession. |
| Total Amount Spent | 180 for an average dinner |
| Would you recommend it? | Yes |
| Pros (+) | Food is simply delicious (especially their rolls are to die for), and presentation is great too. Service is very friendly with a keen, helpful English-speaking boss. Reasonably priced. |
| Cons (-) |
The place is small, unfortunately; big gatherings (over 20 people) tend not to be very practical, although the owner does go out of his way to arrange seating in the best possible way. Location not too easy to find for newcomers. Salads can be a bit garlicky at times. |
| Overall | This has become my favourite Japanese restaurant in town, especially when craving rolls and avocadoes (that apparently no other Japanese restaurant has). |
| Total Amount Spent | 150 on average per visit |

| Pros (+) |
- Big French doors along the frontage. When the weather's good it's a decent place for outdoor dining/drinking. - They have Guinness - A reasonable mix of dishes on the menu. Not just the standard burger/pizza etc. |
| Cons (-) |
- Dishes can be hit and miss. - It's in Magnetic Capital's "European Fashion Street" |
| Overall | Better than a lot of western restaurants in town. They seem to have at least some idea of western tastes/styles. |
| Total Amount Spent | 200 for 2 |

| Pros (+) | This is the best Pizza I've found in China - and better then lots of pizza in the States. Delivered hot and on time. Able to order in English. Went with the pan - excellent. |
| Cons (-) | I wish pizza were healthier... |
| Overall | This is a slam dunk. Thanks to Aaron for the tip. Flat out great pizza. Thank goodness! |

| Pros (+) | Food, view, food, staff, food, music, food, decor, food, Aaron. Even the condiments are made from scratch. They know what they are doing and they do it well in a beautful park setting with loads of windows. And did I mention the excellent food? |
| Cons (-) | Hard to find! Signage courtesy of the wating game... |
| Overall | It's a beautiful walk in the park - check the map carefully and leave some of the fresh made sorbet for me... |
| Total Amount Spent | 180 - 2 huge meals w/beverages |
| Would you recommend it? | Yes |
| Pros (+) | fresh pizza made on the premises. unlike so many places, they are not using stale commercial pre-cooked bases, and this is evident in the flavour. Always fresh toppings, and real cheese. meats are the usual Hormel fare, but still tasty enough. |
| Cons (-) | only large bottle drinks, and I only like cans. otherwise none so far. |
| Overall |
easy to order in English, fast delivery (must admit I live close by though), and have had no problems so far - have ordered about twice a month this past year. the owner is an ex Pizza Hut employee from Dalian who started up his own business here. I don't think its fair to say he copied the Pizza Box menu, which can lay no claims to any originality anyway. |

| Pros (+) | Some of the staff speak English very well and they have an extensive range of American canned foods in the shop. |
| Cons (-) | pizza can sometimes be missing toppings, and depending on who is cooking that day, can be downright awful. delivery orders are often wrong. regularly out of stock of common things like coke and milk. opening and closing times change from day to day. canned and dry goods often out of date/expired. |
| Overall | good place to stock up on American canned and dry goods, but stock is variable and unreliable. I used to shop at this place regularly for 4 years, but for the reasons above (see cons) have given up on it. |

| Pros (+) | It is really good food! Have been there twice, once with the old ball and chain, then with some of my teaching friends from Tangshan. Everyone enjoyed it very much. The steak was true to form, and the burgers where up to par, the ribs are very tastey and I made a really good mess on my shirt!! |
| Cons (-) | None that come to mind. The steak price is steep but for good reason, it is imported beef, not the stuff they serve here. Also, it is not as large as I thought a resturant/bar would be. could be an upstairs? |
| Overall | Yeppers, if you are looking for a good steak or burger in Nankai, then Hank's is the spot you want. Good for satillite TV and regulars seem like they could be alot of fun! |
| Total Amount Spent | 270. for 2/ 500 for 4 |
